Verjnuarmu - Ruatokansan Uamunkoetto

What is savo metal?

Verjnuarmu might be savo metallers, but they are also the only band that plays this kind of music. Does this make them that good automatically? Yes and honestly they do deserve all the praise you can give them.

I thought it was a joke when I found out that Verjnuarmu labeled themselves as savo metal. Great another genre to add to metal, that’s what we need right now. It turns out their kind of metal music is most welcomed to this melting pot known as metal.

Savo stands for Savonian, which is a spoken Finnish language spoken in Savonia and other parts of Eastern Finland. To put that in terms most people can understand…this album isn’t in English. Instead of having an easy time understanding the band you have to do some homework to understand it. I didn’t find this a real problem since I listen to other foreign bands, Rammstein being the biggest of these foreign bands.

Even though Verjnuarmu is doing their own thing with their language you can easily get into this album. From the albums first track, Tulesta Pimmeyvven, I was really into this album. The growling, gothic, and epic sounding vocals are extremely good. Puijon Perkele is defiantly a force with his clean, or as I called it, epic vocals.

Fans of melodic death metal should feel right at home with this release as well. The guitar riffs are blasting with energy and the solos, God are the solos great on this record. It is so hard for me to pick my favorite guitar song; everyone has its own touch to it that’s so special.

One track that really sticks out as a masterpiece is Huaskalinnut. The combination of heavy riffs, blasting drumming beats, and Perkele’s vocals send a bolt of lighting through my body. I haven’t heard this much passion and energy in a song for a long time. This is what metal is about!

Most of the drumming tracks are pretty intense on this record. They have a melodic death metal/doom metal sound to them, which goes real well with the album...Add in the tight bass parts and you have a double whammy. Good vocals, guitars, bass, and drums? Yeah this album pretty much has it all.

I can’t express enough how much I enjoy this album. True, American metal fans might be turned away with none English lyrics. You need to forget about that and buy this album. I am not kidding when I say how good this album is. I’m having a real hard time taking it out of my mp3 player.
