DezperadoZ - An Eye For An Eye

I think most of the guys among us (like myself) used to dream of being a tough cowboy. Come on, admit it; living your life in the whole outfit, complete with the boots and the guns, smoking, drinking beer and whiskey and looking like a savage, learning everyone a lesson by being a hot-shot gunfighter sounds rather attractive and charming. And not to forget that cowboy boots and hats have been a wanted item among metal fans for a long time. When the German guitar player Alex Kraft (also known as guitarist for Tom Angelripper's drinking project Onkel Tom) released Desperados debut album 'The Dawn Of Dying' together with Angelripper, he showed that metal and the Wild West can be a great combination.

The name was changed into Dezperadoz with the second album 'The Legend And The Truth' and two years later the third output 'An Eye For An Eye' is unleashed. From the very first seconds you get the feeling back and gets sucked into the world of deserts, saloons and gunfighters, supported by pounding heavy metal with country and Western tunes. The movie and soundtrack feeling has been captured in for example horse hooves and breathes, but also Western guitar tunes, mouth harmonica and whistles that fit perfectly to 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly. Kraft has also created a concept for this album, which fits perfectly to the music and makes the soundtrack feeling even more present. In general the songs sound a bit more natural and better worked out than before, although I have to admit that not all are equally convincing. But when a band can create songs like 'Wild Bunch', 'May Heaven Strike Me Down' and 'Days Of Thunder', you would easily forgive the rest. Especially when Onkel Tom adds his contribution to 'Here Comes The Pain'.

Next to the ten self-compositions this album contains two (in my eyes) rather convincing cover tracks. This time the choice has fell on The Doors' 'Riders On The Storm' and of course mister Johnny Cash can't be forgotten and gets his tribute with '25 Minutes To Go', which makes 'An Eye For An Eye' the perfect record for the headbangers who also enjoy a good Western. YEE HAW, MoFos!!
