Amaseffer - Slaves For Life

Musical expression comes in many forms, and there is no "one" right or wrong way to deliver it. Israel's AMASEFFER have clearly laid out their vision for their debut album, "Slaves For Life", one that is the culmination of months upon months of hard work, arrangements and just plain blood, sweat and tears. While listening to this album, it becomes obvious that the band are not only conscientious about what they do, but also about the message they are relaying to people, and it is much deeper than one might expect. The theme of this album, the first of a projected trilogy, tells the tale of the history of the Israeli people portrayed in the Old Testament.

It's nearly impossible to place AMASEFFER into one specific sub-genre because their music is so diverse, and their sound so distinct. Technically this could be classified as Prog, but AMASEFFER amalgamate several different styles into their music, including Rock, Metal, Film Score and atmospheric elements. The songs themselves each deliver their own individual flavour, but Middle Eastern influences are the main focus.

AMASEFFER - Hanan Avramovich (guitar), Yuval Kramer (guitar) and Erez Yohanan (drums, percussion and narration) - managed to summon one of the most respected vocalists in Metal music in the extraordinary Mats Leven (KRUX, ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, ex-AT VANCE) , who diversifies his voice to fit each tale perfectly. The songs speak for themselves. The title track follows the two and a half-minute intro with mesmerizing soundscapes beautifully crafted by AMASEFFER's core. The pair of epics "Birth Of Deliverance" and the near 12-minute masterpiece "Midian" (which includes guest vocals by ARCH ENEMY master growler Angela Gossow) are probably the most sophisticated tracks here, while songs like "Wooden Staff" and "Return To Egypt" capture several levels of emotion with a mixture of real-life sound effects, skilled guitar work and chanting.

This is one of those albums that requires the listener's complete attention. It almost commands it because there is so much going on, and in order to grasp the experience to the fullest effect, you need to be able to listen to it without interruption. AMASEFFER, though not a Death Metal band or a Black Metal band, are an important addition to the Metal genre because they are unique and have something to offer. Simply put, "Slaves To Life" is a masterful work of art that needs to be heard, not just for its musical enjoyment, but also for the message it sends.
